This is just a curiosity question, especially for those of you into very extreme or intense forms of music. So is there any band or artist that is just so difficult to listen to that you either can't listen to it for long or you just avoid listening to it at all. I'm not talking about music that is artistically bad or not played well or anything. I'm talking more about maybe stuff that is just psychologically too hard to take or is too atonal or loud or subject matter hits too close to home or is even too depressing even for the darkest of dark souls. I hope you understand what I'm asking.
really, really, really hard metal!
i can listen to stuff like nirvana, the offspring, linken park, but you know when you get those bands.. they scream so much you don't even know what they are saying, it's nasty!
also drum and base, that also gives me a lot of anoyance
i hate system of a down, or as a good friend of mine says system of the down. well i like some of their songs, but some make me go crazy and kill my head. Now, I don't know if this bqualifies as it is not a known group thank god, but my father and mother in law singing bluegrass and playing the banjo. my husband is an excellent musician and accompanies them. however, when mel from hell starts a whinin and a walin about his truck that hit his dog so he had to shoot his girlfriend, and oh lorddy the whisky tastes good, I am in serious need of an adult beverage myself. both of them are off tune but think they are the hottest thing since 1950. ouch let me get my nasty self out of here.
I can't stand the lyrics of Cannible Corpse! And yet I listen to All that remains, Otep, and brutal stuff like that. Long live metal! But die Cannible Corpse!
Christian rock is the most evil and unsettling "genre" of "music" out there. It contains a phoniness so stomach-turningly wretched. Those who "perform" it deserve to be in the same section of hell as Hitler with their mouths wrapped around Satan's fire-spuing cock eternally.
Smooth "jazz" is a close second.
Way to water down and besmirch the name of such an amazing genre of music that is arguably the most historically significant as far as this country goes.
.
disco, i'm worried about you!!! your opinions are so weak!!!!
Other then too many of the artists being whining wimpy white boys, I don't see much to dislike about christian rock. My mind is open. If someone can tell me about groups that don't fall in my description my mind is open. I know of ddarn few. Also I think contemporary christian is derivitive. punk christian? metal christian? when they can find a forum that is their own with muscle and meaning, i'll get a lot more excited. Gospel is the closest I've found.
I think some folks are missing the point. I must be speaking Klingon again. I'm really aiming at really dark or extreme or underground forms of music that try to be as intense as possible or push the envelope. I guess waht I'm driving at is if people like very dark music that expresses really dark emotions and stuff, where do ya draw the line. What artists have you heard where you said, "Now that's just way too much for me to handle, I can't listen to this."
I knew exactly what you meant. I just find Christian rock to be that sinister.
Curious as to how many people around here could tolerate something like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dPubzM1LX0
(features Atilla from Norwegian black metal band Mayhem on vocals)
Sadly, the low end frequencies don't translate very well on youtube.
Ignore that last sample; this one has much better audio quality:

Hey Metal Angel is is safe to assume your real issue with canibal corpse and their lyrics is that you are christian? I could see how some of their lyrics would offend in that case. But it sounds like your dislike of that band is just for their lyrics not their music. And speaking as a non christian there are few christian rock bands that don't annoy me like say DemonHunter... anyways sorry about the off topic comments .. While i will admit that black metal is a very challenging and technical genre yeah alot of it is just too extremem for me to listen to on a regular consistant basis
For me, it would be hardcore heavy metal rock songs, they are too loud and sometimes they get annoying when they keep on repeating a line. Right now, the most annoying song would be Party Like a Rockstar because they keep on going and going. It gets annoying.
To monkeypusher69, yes, I am Christian. But I try not to let my beliefs be forced on anyone. However, I still dislike the lyrical content of Cannible Corpse and others like them. I like there style of music, but not there lyrics.
As far as music I can't stand, most rap. It degrades women and encourages teens and adults to use drugs and do the same. Sickening!
I find songs like "Daddy" from the first Korn album utterly awful to listen to. The man is basically freaking out reliving having been raped over some bizarre dark guitar chord progression and then crying and screaming hysterically for probably 10 minutes, I've read in interviews that to him it was a real experience and I am somehow convinced it was by listening to the track (not that I do much). It's the last track of their self titled debut and it's just awful, powerful but awful.
Another band that pushes the envelop with the WTF factor is Mr Bungle, if you want to hear 1800 chord progressions, key changes, genre changes, harmonica mixed with heavy metal, with monk music, hip hop and slow jazz, you can try their California album, even if you may not remember your own name after a few minutes.
I gave up on death metal years ago, sort of enjoyed it for a while, bands like Bolt Thrower, but, to be honest, I never understood not even a third of what the guys were rumbling about so the lyrics never bothered me much, just made sure not to look them up, as I didn't expect anything very nice.
Similarly I find Eminem's killing rants and whinings just half boring, half exaggerated awfulness, so I've totally given up on him, the latest album is awful, and yet I like a lotof his more social comentary and songs like "Stan" are just plain classics. He's both the best and the worst rapper I've ever heard, but the quality of his music/lyrics is going down the proverbial drain.
Lol! Just lol!
You know metal angel.. the same can be said for some rock/metal as far as incouraging drug use. Haven't you heard/seen all the references to weed in the rock/metal world?
Oh yeah and Def agree with Daddy .. i think i can count on one hand the amount of times i have listened to that entire song .. which leads into that bonus track i never knew was there untill that one day i got a phone call as the song started left my room to take it and then about 20 minutes later i was in trouble for the loud cursing coming from my stereo ... and of course my father didn't believe me when i said i didn't know about it. lol
Oh, is there a secret track? See, I didnot even know that. ;)
I honestly think weed use and "drug" use are not i the same category, and, heck, I'd rather be told to smoke weed than to be told that it's cool to kill someone or live on the street etc. Too much of that stuff in rap music. Then again I just don't care that much about lyrics and the ones I dislike the most are the whiny "you never loved me" white boy lyrics, like Staind, that sound as incredible as a bagger wearing a tuxido outside his million dollar mansion and with a Mercedes waiting to pick him up convincing me he's poor.
I know may be they speak to someone and that's fine, it's just I who can't stand them. I don't like music that is anyting else but music i.e. religious, overly political, I want music to be sound pictures of emotions with mysterious lyrics you can interpret to mean pretty much anything. I think Christian music is fine in the church and I like a lot of ideas that have come from such music (heck, Ray Charles basically got his fame for incorporating them into his songs) but I use music to get away from it all and relax, get away from the every day, so I don't like the lyrics to lecture me on anything. But it's the same reason I like to read sci fi and/or fantasy books in my spare time rather than biographies or "real" stories. And I know that's justmy personal choice. For what I really consider "awesome" rapping, check out "the Streets", it's funny, with horrendous accent and all about the guy's experience with drugs and drinking but not in a way that glorifies it.
Coil and Current 93, while quite interesting and explore the darker parts, can get to be a bit much after awhile. That's in the industrial genre, for those who haven't heard the names ...
I knew that, but I don't listen to that kind of music. The stuff I listen to is brutal and yet it encourages people to do better. I'm tired of hearing about how the players play, and all the kids wana be gangsters. That's why I listen to what I'm in to. That's all i'm saying.
I agree with alot of the fews you have on not liking rap and why you l listen to metal .. same here .. and as much as you want to say weed isn't a "drug" the fact remains it is .. its just become so common place that most of us doesn't thing of it in the same manner that we do coke and or heroin. My point remains though that there is more if not just as much of a drug culture around rock and roll in all its varying genres (which yes does include the hard rock and metal sub genres) as there is in rap. Hell some may even argue that rap is a sub genre of rock and roll, but i guess thats all for another debate lol .
I agree with you. I still think Demon Hunter's amazing!
I think metal is hard, as you almost do not understand them, I agree with that. but in actual fact I am really not liking metal and rock that much. I think what is really hard to play is russian and Irish music on key board and Irish music especially on tin Whistle and Irish flute, as I play that stuff
Wow a Current 93 reference on here.
Awesome.
Industrial music is only one of the numerous musical styles they've explored, though.
The Mars Volta, Captain Beefheart, and Motorhead.
Actaly, Cap'n Befheart has one ome airy accessible ocksuff. But eah, if wha ou heard as n e ode f, et's say, "Trout Mask Replica" then yeah, hat an be challenging.
Has anyone else ever experienced My Bloody Valentine's "Holocaust" section live? I thought it was the most exhilarating live music experience ever but doubt most here would be too fond of 20+ minutes of 130 decibel instrumental feedback.
Here's an article on it:
